Protectors
Protecting leather is essential to prevent soil build up and colour
loss due to wear. This must not be confused with conditioning which
is a separate issue. Leather does not need conditioning as it is
only the surface that needs looking after. It's hard to imagine this
but if anything gets through the outer layer, then it will
eventually get further into the leather itself. This why it is so
important to protect the outer layer.
Protection can be applied to old and new leather items (older items
will need to be cleaned first). The leather protection cream that we
apply provides a protective barrier to the leather preventing
stains, dirt and liquids penetrating the surface.

Un-protected
Protected
It is suitable for all leather types
except suede and nubuck, and this process is applied as part of the
cleaning or restoration process. It is an essential addition -
especially for those expensive Aniline leathers as the picture above
demonstrates - during our testing programme.
Finishes
Finishes are applied to
pigmented leathers when new and after recolouring/restoration to
protect the coloured surface. This differs from protection in that
it is a permanent finish which will last for years. It can either be
a matt, satin or gloss finish - whichever is desired. However, like
all finishes it will start to wear thinner and thinner so we would
always recommend applying protection cream every time it's cleaned.
Any permanent finishes cannot be
applied to nubuck or suede and shouldn't be used on anilines
otherwise it will affect the feel of this type of leather.
